Oldskool Slabside Turbo Dragrace Project
16. Jun 2008 at 17:31

Some pics of my dragrace project. Started it about two years ago when I bought a Hayabusa and decided to turn my old -86 GSXR1100 to a pure dragrace bike. Going to race in the Swedish Pro Street Bike class. Max 1500mm(59") wheel base, "street" tires (no slicks), no wheelie bars. Max cc with turbo 1200 (or stock) . First everything picked apart.

Frame modified, swingarm bolt and steering head (if that's the right name for it) are moved 30mm higher in the frame to be able to lower it more. First prototype for new shock linkage can also be seen.

Finished shock linkage with fully adjustable ratio.

Mitsubishi TD04HL-18T turbo with a straight number 7 exhaust, Tial 38mm wastegate and MC-Xpress intercooler with homemade tanks. Oilcooler is moved to the rear.

And has a GSXR1000 electric fan.

Fuel tank.

Start of plenum. Stock 34mm carbs.

Finished plenum, GReddy blow off valve, Malpassi fuel pressure regulator and a lot of tubes  Smiley

Instrumentation with boost, fuel, pressure RPM, oiltemp and volt meter. Ignition and fuel switches. And the Apexi AVC-R boost controller.

First startup
http://yo*t*be.com/watch?v=nIFug43JYqg

Fiberglass fairings modified and prepped for paint.

Finished paint. Oldskool look  Smiley

And an action picture from the race last weekend. This was my first race with this bike. Best 1/4 time was 9,74/263kmh. I was running 98 octane petrol and max boost was 1 bar. Going to rejet the carbs for E85 and increase the boost to about 1,5bar for the next race. My goal is 300-350hp and to get down to around 8,5-9s 1/4 times. This was just a few pictures, there's a LOT more on my project forum http://makephpbb.com/phpbb/gixxer.html

I see on your own forum that you've used those nice click-in couplings...on your malpassi, but also on your carbs..how did you get them to fit?

Thank you for all kind words. I have a "few" hours in this bike.

No more videos for the moment, I will make some later.

The two pneumatic couplings that goes to the float bowl breathers are glued with epoxy. The four smaller ones are threaded in the sync outputs.

On the Malpassi I cut the tubes off and threaded the holes.

Very nice, 59" is bloody short, do they have a longer wheelbase class or is that it?

Theres plenty of longer wheelbase classes. Pro Street Bike and Super Gas Bike is the biggest classes here in Sweden. in Super Gas Bike there is no wheelbase restrictions but its an index class, no faster then 9,5 seconds. In Super Pro Street Bike the max wheelbase is 1730mm (68"), then theres Funny Bike, Pro Stock Bike and Top Fuel Bike. I choose Pro Street Bike because it's more fun with some competition and I didn't want to run in an index class.
